 Well this shows promise. Much better than The Afters, the previous Amazon outing I watched.

Luther S01E01 "Episode 1"

Am I watching this just for Idris Elba? Maybe.

Huh. It just occurred to me that both McNulty and Stringer Bell were played by British actors.

I love how TV policemen think they can harass their wives at work because they're police. (Luther, whatsisface on True Detective...)

I like that Luther's superior is female. (But if his superior were a male would they be macho and competitive?)

My general impression is that the entire show rides on Idris Elba. But because he is who he is, that might be enough.

Fargo S01E01

So far it's definitely in keeping with the spirit of the movie.

Billy Bob is delightful(ly creepy).

This show has Amber Heard in it and its written by Kevin Williamson. So why not?

Is that the same kid? I can't tell.

Good thing Amber Heard is wearing a white dress to frolic in the sprinkelrs.

But when do two people ever just meet and frolic through sprinklers together? What even is this?

Why is there a pop song every other scene?

Well this show is pretty terrible so far.

Okay, I love you Amber Heard, but I give up.

The Wire S01E01: The Target

This guy (the protagonist?) doesn't have a name yet that I've managed to discern.

This show sure doesn't bother with exposition, does it.

Idris Elba is so fine.

So the homicide detective told the judge that this guy is the big drug guy, and the judge passes the information along to narcotics. Do I understand everything so far?

Why does this Major guy keep his office so dark?

This episode uses lots of shots of security camera monitors.

FBI?? Why is McNulty going over to the Bureau?

It's so weird that this is post-9/11 but the technology still seems so dated.

Crisis S01E01: Pilot

So far, lots of cliches. But at least there's Gillian Anderson.

Why is Secret Service guy rescuing chubby kid?

I know that woman. She's from 666 Park Avenue, I think.

That little teaser at the beginning of the episode could have been a lot more intriguing.

Oooh, who's that guy? He looks familiar.

I can't foresee this show lasting more than a season. It's too Flashforward-y.

And that kid is the second coming of the kid from The Sandlot.

This Secret Service guy is really giving away his upper hand by phoning in on the walkie.

666 Lady has great eyebrows.

This is all just pretty heavy-handed and far-fetched. But again, Gillian Anderson.

"Something's in there" is a really creepy way of saying "I'm pregnant."

That is a huge fetus.

What do they gain by killing the realtor?

These brothers are named Luke and Mark? Just like the twins on The Following.

"And there's a female detective." As if that in itself is bad news.

They're not really being subtle about Matt being a bad guy.

"Any normal person would feel sad" - no wonder she feels manipulated.

I wasn't really digging Black Butler, but have an anime itch to scratch. So let's try Attack on Titan!

This opening theme is pretty epic.

• Oh, MASTERS of Sex! Because his name is Masters!
• I know this show is based on real history, but I'm gonna take it at face value on this blog. I am curious about its authenticity but meh.
• In the grand tradition of TV wives, I will expect to either pity this wife or hate her. Wouldn't it be neat if she were different?
• I hope Masters never cheats on his wife and that he doesn't have sex with Johnson. It would be cheesy if Masters gets his wife pregnant only after giving her an orgasm or something like that, but it would be okay.

Really intriguing first episode. I've heard amazing things about Tatiana Maslany's performance, and I can see where that praise is coming from.
